1. Why YouTube Videos Should Be Included As Part Of Your Marketing Plan

• Initially tagged as the renegade of the Internet world, YouTube has matured to become an important part of today's new media landscape, and it shouldn't be ignored, especially when it comes to developing your marketing plan. YouTube provides a valuable medium for companies, including yours, to showcase products and services at no cost.

• YouTube's latest demographics might surprise you in that, according to ComScore.com, 25 percent of YouTube users have a household income of more than $100,000 a year, and that 44 percent of YouTube users are between 35 and 54 years old.

• With these numbers, you might want to consider YouTube as the perfect place to upload a promotional video or your company's TV commercial.

• If Neiman Marcus, the high-end and sophisticated retailer, can use YouTube as a new medium to promote its 100th anniversary celebration, there's definitely no reason why you shouldn't consider it as part of your plans.

2. Cattle Call Ritual Ends: Now You Can Actually Reserve That Spot In Line

• Traveling on Southwest Airlines in November? Expect confusion as Southwest puts its "extraordinary customer service" culture to a real test by changing a passenger ritual that's been going on since the birth of the airline. Passengers will no longer have to stampede to get a spot in line and then stand, grazing for 35-60 minutes until the boarding announcement is made.

• The new change means that, instead of rushing to get a spot in line, passengers will be assigned a letter-number combination on their boarding pass, which will reserve their spots in line. When the gate agent calls a boarding group, passengers will then get up and take their place in line, in numerical order.

• Difficult to understand? Take a "class" at Southwest's "Boarding School" at: http://www.southwest.com/help/boardingschool

• AirTran made this conversion rather neatly years ago. One wonders way it's taken Southwest so long.

3. Ready To Start An Online Advertising Campaign? Here's Where To Start

• When you hear the myriad of marketers saying that the new way to reach your target audience is online, the question always asked is, "Where exactly online? There are a zillion places to advertise online, so where is the best place to start?"

• If you are marketing to consumers, the best place to start may be with your local TV station's Web site. Recently, TV stations have put a new energy into their Web sites by adding videos, updating their newscasts and enhancing weather information services with real-time video and satellite imagery.

• These efforts have paid off as traffic to their Web sites has increased dramatically. According to The Media Audit, as a national average, 27 percent of U.S. online adults have visited their local TV stations' Web sites in the last 30 days. In some markets, as in those with an unusually high Internet penetration, more than half of the adult online population has visited their local TV stations' Web sites. 4. The 60 Second Close: Entering The New Media Frontier

• It can be a little intimidating to venture out into the new media frontier, especially with so many options to choose from and the arduous task of separating the hype from the fact.

• The one truth that continues to be evident is that viewing, listening and reading habits have changed, and your target audience might not be as easy to find this year as in previous years. This means you might need a completely new strategy to find your potential customers.
